Steven Gerrard says Everton didn't come close to matching their valuation of Nathan Patterson.

The English Premier League side made offers for the teenager in the late stages of the transfer window with the final figure believed to be around £8million.

Rangers knocked back the bids for the Scotland international and Gerrard says they would be looking for a lot more than that price if they were going to sell.

The Ibrox boss also revealed they've had 'healthy' offers for other players in previous windows but is praising the club's board for standing firm against them.

He said: "You always want to keep a hold of your best players. The players who will give you the best chance of being successful moving forward.

"That is being a little bit selfish - but I also understand how the business works.

I was well prepared for my phone going at any given moment if the right bid landed for a player and the board wanted to accept that.

There wouldn't have been any resistance as long as they were happy on their side

This club has had some real healthy bids in the last two or three windows for our players.

To be fair to our board they've stayed strong in those situations because they have just fallen short of our valuations of those players - like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

"We had some bids for Nathan Patterson that were way off his valuation in this recent window.

"So the reality is that the valuations from me, Ross and the board collectively - no one has hit those numbers.

"But from a selfish point of view I'm obviously happy in this situation".
