It is understood Motherwell have a five-man shortlist with the interview process set to conclude early next week.

Robinson is in contention after guiding the team to victory at Kilmarnock but he is focused on steering them through a defensive injury crisis when they face Aberdeen on Saturday.

"I have had minimal conversation with the board,'' the former Oldham boss said. "I have just cracked on and got on with it.

"I was asked to take the game on Saturday and I have been asked to take the game this Saturday. I haven't gone chasing for information.

"I have done what I believe I am capable of doing on the football pitch, getting the team organised and trying to get the club on a stable footing again.

"I will get judged in terms of what I do and the results and the way the team play. That was our second win in 11 on Saturday. We have conceded a lot of goals so first and foremost it was try and steady it a little bit, stop conceding goals, and obviously the win helps a wee bit of momentum.

"I will just get on with what I'm okay at and I will let other people make those decisions."

While the 42-year-old continues to be non-committal about his immediate future, he is keen to get back into management following a brief spell with League One's Latics.

"We are in the game because we all love it,'' he said, who returned as first-team coach eight days before McGhee was sacked.

"It's a drug, we all want to be part of it. Scottish football is a fantastic place to work. There's a lot of good people in the game and I have had a lot of support from people and managers in Scotland.

"As I said last week, this is a club close to my heart. There's a lot of good people at this football club who I felt I owed a little bit to as well. They were very good to me at the start and I felt it was up to me to steady the ship and give them my time to do that."

Robinson's three-man central defence helped get them a much-needed win at Rugby Park but they are all doubtful for Saturday's trip to Pittodrie. Stephen McManus remains out following groin surgery.

Robinson said: We are waiting on Ben Heneghan, Zak Jules and Carl McHugh on fitness. There are a few injury problems that may dictate what system we have to play.

"We have nursed them through the week and we will assess things. They have been out on the training pitch walking through things. We will make a late decision on all three.''

The lack of fit defenders is the last thing Motherwell needed weeks after their 7-2 thrashing at Pittodrie.

"We looked at a lot of things that happened in that game and there were a lot of individual errors," Robinson said. "You need to take that out.

"It's a tough game, Aberdeen have only lost two at home all season, they have the second-best defensive record and second-best scoring record behind Celtic.

"But we are not going there just to lie down. The players owe themselves and the fans a performance and that's what I have demanded first and foremost."
