Rangers boss Michael Beale says some half-time "home truths" were key to booking a place in the Champions League play-off round.

James Tavernier's equaliser booked a tie against PSV after they went behind on the night through a Dereck Kutesa strike.

Tavernier's header five minutes after the break sealed a 1-1 draw which handed the Ibrox side a 3-2 aggregate win.

Speaking to BBC Scotland about the performance, Beale said : "Really slow start.

"The crowd was up, it's a warm night and we started okay. Then we conceded a goal and you're thinking we need to dig in.

"Jack made a couple of big saves and we did have moments in the first half. The biggest one is Danilo's miss - it was a fantastic cross from Cifuentes, who for his second game for Rangers I thought had another really positive night. Him and Raskin were good.

"At half-time we had to have some strong words because it wasn't the performance we were looking for in loads of areas. Second half, we improved greatly.

"We got our full backs up the pitch, got more control and played with more tempo, both in our running and passing.

"It was an excellent goal. A fantastic cross from Borna and James getting in there at the far post. After that we could have extended our lead. We had a couple of great chances and Cyriel's really unlucky hitting the post."
