Hibs striker departs on loan
Hibs striker Elias Melkersen is heading to the Netherlands for the rest of the season on loan
Hibernian striker Elias Melkersen is set to head out on loan for the rest of the season.
The Norwegian will join Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam for the remainder of the campaign.
An agreement is in place with the Dutch side for the option to buy the striker at the end of the loan spell, although that'll cost them a seven-figure fee according to the club.
20-year-old Melkersen joined Hibs last January from Bodo/Glimt in his homeland and has since made 29 appearances for the side - scoring three times.
Two of those goals came against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup in an early showing from the forward that had the Hibs faithful excited about the young talent.
Hibernian FC Manager Lee Johnson commented: “Elias is a player that has all the attributes to be a top number nine.
“Given the return of Kevin Nisbet, we believe now is the time for Elias to get regular starts to implement all the hard work he’s put into training.
“In Sparta Rotterdam, he has a club and therefore a vehicle to get regular starts to showcase his talents.”
