Jamie McGrath ends transfer saga by signing for Wigan Athletic
The Irishman leaves St Mirren for an undisclosed fee
Jamie McGrath has joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee after a long transfer saga surrounding his potential exit from St Mirren.
The Irish international had been linked with Aberdeen and Hibernian but moves fell through after failing to agree personal terms.
McGrath impressed during his two year spell in Paisley, scoring 20 times in 79 games.
He was named Player of the Year for the 20/21 season.
He also earned his first Republic of Ireland call-up when at Jim Goodwin's side and has since gone on to play six times.
A club statement read: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Jamie McGrath has tonight joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
"The 25-year-old joined Saints in January 2020 from League of Ireland side Dundalk and made 79 appearances for the Buddies over his two years in Paisley.
"Everyone at St Mirren would like to thank Jamie for his service to the club and wish him all the very best for his future."
The Latics face Oxford United in League One on Tuesday whilst St Mirren host Motherwell in the Premiership tomorrow.
The Buddies have signed Alex Gogic and Jordan Jones on short term loan deals today, whilst Kristian Dennis has joined McGrath by heading out of the exit door.
