Hibs winger Martin Boyle revealed his disappointment after pulling out of Australia's Asian Cup squad with a knee problem.

The 25-year-old picked up the injury in the Socceroos' 5-0 friendly win over Oman in Dubai on Sunday and will return to Easter Road for treatment.

Boyle, whose father was born in Sydney, won his first caps in November and scored twice in a 3-0 win against Lebanon in his first start.

On his Instagram account, he said: "Not the best start to 2019 having to withdraw from the @socceroos squad and missing the Asia cup with a knee injury, but they have my full support from back home.

"Absolutely gutted but everything happens for a reason. Friends & family's support will get me back even stronger.''

Australia begin their defence of the Asian Cup with a Group B clash against Jordan in Al Ain next Sunday.
