Louis Moult rejects new deal at Motherwell

Motherwell striker Louis Moult has rejected a new contract offer from the club.

The new deal would have made him the highest-paid player the squad.

The 25-year-old's current contract runs out at the end of the season meaning he will be free to speak to other clubs in January unless Motherwell decide to sell him rather than lose him for free.

Rangers and Aberdeen have previously expressed an interest in the striker, with Dons boss Derek McInnes unsuccessful in a bid to take Moult to Pittodrie earlier this summer.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson said he is disappointed but they have done all they can to keep Moult: "We made Louis a really good offer, the best we could possibly make at this football club, but he indicated to me he's not going to sign the contract at this moment in time but not that he wouldn't look at it further down the line.

He's going to be at the football club for the next year, minimum, and he's one hundred percent committed to Motherwell."

Robinson will now turn his attention to adding to his squad: "We got caught short when Marvin Johnson left on the last day of the transfer window (August 2016) so ultimately I need to make decisions for the good of the football club.

"I've got to try and strengthen the squad now that Louis has indicated that he won't be signing.
