Levein sees more to come from improving Hearts after 1-1 draw at Partick Thistle
The Hearts boss admits there's still a lot of work to do
Craig Levein admitted his Hearts side still have a lot to improve on after salvaging a 1-1 draw at Partick Thistle.
The Jambos remain unbeaten under the former Scotland boss since he returned to the dugout, but were unconvincing at the Energy Check Stadium.
Ross Callachan headed in a controversial equaliser late on - there were claims it had been cleared off the line - after Blair Spittal's opener and though Levein was pleased to escape with a point, he knows there is room for improvement.
“We're not at the stage yet where I can feel completely comfortable about he way we're playing,” he said.
“I am much, much happier with the way we're working and the effort the players are putting in and the fitness figures.
“The first thing was to fix the effort and application, and we're getting that but now we have to fix our style of play.
“We can do better than what we've done.”
However it remains a decent point for Hearts against a Thistle side who have twice threatened to beat Rangers in the past week, and Levein accepted it as a fair result.
He said: “I thought it was a tough match, I don't think any team had domination for any length of time, it seemed to swing back and forth throughout the 90 minutes.
“I was pleased that we showed good resilience and I was hoping that resilience would extend to a goal at the end and get all three points, but all credit to Partick.”
Alan Archibald was left frustrated after his thin squad squandered the lead with 10 minutes to go to deny them a first league win of the season, but was in the dark over whether the header crossed the line or not.
“I've seen it back just now, and it's hard to tell,” he said. “I'm more disappointed in the bit before it and our defending because I thought we rode out Hearts' pressure.”
He added: “We were a wee bit light on numbers with Conor (Sammon) unable to play and Chris (Erskine) suspended, so they were a bit tired but that's no excuse - you have to see the game out."
