Lasley looks for home comforts for Motherwell
Motherwell captain Keith Lasley believes Fir Park can be a fortress again as they bid to get out of relegation danger.
Motherwell captain Keith Lasley believes Fir Park can be a fortress again as they bid to get out of relegation danger.
The Steelmen have not won in their last eight home games and have only scored three goals in their last seven matches at Fir Park.
Results will need to improve quickly if Motherwell are to get out of the bottom two with Inverness visiting on Saturday looking to cut a four-point gap and emulate their 3-0 win at the same venue in October.
But Lasley feels their home performances have been worth more in recent games - the last one saw Ben Heneghan have a header cleared possibly from behind the line in a goalless draw with Hamilton.
The midfielder said: "The St Johnstone game, although we lost the game 2-1, we had more then enough chances to win the game never mind draw. And the Hamilton game where the ball was over the line and chances in the first half, we could easily have won that game too.
"We don't have a feeling in that dressing room that there's a problem at home. We feel the performances have been there and there is certainly no negativity there in that regards.
"We will come out the traps in the first 20 minutes on Saturday and hopefully we can give a performance that the fans can get behind and we can use this place to our advantage. Because we are going to need it, we are going to need the supporters more than ever. And the supporters need us to show them something they can get behind.
"When the fans get behind us, this stadium is a difficult place to come and that's what we need to try and make it between now and the end of the season.
"We want to try and get all the negativity we can out of the head, because it's not going to do us any good. We have still got six massive games and we have got to go out with as positive a mindset as we can."
Manager Stephen Robinson has had the players in for double sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday after their 1-0 defeat by Partick Thistle on Saturday.
"We've got to be prepared as much as we can be, it certainly won't be a lack of preparation at fault if we do come up short," said Lasley, who was speaking as the SPFL Trust's trophy tour stopped at Fir Park to be met by more than 50 children on Motherwell FC Community Trust's Easter camp.
"But we're determined that's not going to be the case."
