The Arsenal Ladies midfielder faces a long spell out and will take no part in Scotland's debut appearance at a major tournament, where they face England in their group opener on July 19.

In a statement, her club said: "Kim Little sustained a rupture to her anterior cruciate ligament during training earlier this week.

"Our medical team will be working hard to ensure the Scotland international returns back to full fitness as soon as possible. Everyone at Arsenal would like to wish Kim the best with her recovery."

The former Hibernian, Seattle Reign and Melbourne City player has scored 46 goals in 117 matches for Scotland.

The 26-year-old has won titles in Scotland, England and Australia and twice reached the league play-off final in the United States. She won player of the year awards in England and the US.

Little scored 81 times in 93 appearances in her first spell for Arsenal, winning 11 major honours with the club, before returning in October last year following her spell overseas, but has been troubled by other injuries in recent months.
