Keith Lasley excited for 'emotional' return of fans to Fir Park
Around 2,000 supporters will be at their Premier Sports Cup match against Queen of the South
Motherwell assistant Keith Lasley says the return of fans to Fir Park for the first time in over a year will be an emotional occasion.
Around 2,000 supporters will make their way to the ground on Saturday for the club's Premier Sports Cup group tie against Queen of the South.
The Steelmen played in front of Queen's Park fans in their 1-0 win at Firhill on Tuesday night.
However, this weekend will be the first time they've played in front of a home crowd since a 4-1 win over Ross County in March 2020.
Club legend Lasley - who has signed a new deal until 2023 - says it'll be a special occasion to welcome them back into the ground.
He said: “It’s going to be pretty emotional to be honest.
“It was pretty difficult last year for everyone but it clarified what football is about.
“It’s an exciting season and with the fans being back tomorrow it will be a pretty special moment - it’s been a happy week for me personally.
“It’s about the fans, first and foremost, especially at a club like ours where they play such a big part, on and off the pitch.
“We’ve missed them greatly. To have them back in the stadium and that energy back for the team and club, it’s going to be pretty special.
“To have any sort of fan presence back in the stadium will be great for the players and everyone involved".
