Hibernian's appeal against Jimmy Jeggo's sending off at St Johnstone has been successful.

The midfielder was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Connor McLennan early in the second half during the 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park.

The Scottish FA Appeal Panel reviewed the evidence of extensive footage provided by Hibs and overturned the decision made by referee Craig Napier.

Jeggo will now be available for the club's post-split fixtures.

Last week the SFA rejected an appeal by Aberdeen for a similar challenge by Graeme Shinnie, instead handing him an extra match suspension for the appeal's 'frivolous' nature.

Aberdeen and the PFA later criticised the governing body, claiming players had "lost faith in the appeals system".

After Saturday's game in Perth, Hibs manager Lee Johnson branded the sending off as "ridiculous" and being indicative of a "broken system".

Following the outcome of the appeal, Hibs Chief Executive Ben Kensell told the club website: “We are pleased that common sense has prevailed, and the appeal panel has overturned Jimmy Jeggo’s red card.

“This is a positive outcome, however, throughout the current campaign, we have raised serious concerns with the standard of officiating across the Scottish game on at least five occasions where decisions have wrongly gone against us.

“We will work with other clubs and the SFA to bring needed improvement to the current systems.”
