Hamilton defender Shaun Want believes the Accies are the perfect club for developing young players and is hoping they can keep doing it in the Premiership.

The 21-year-old has been at the club since he was 10, has regularly featured since the 2-1 defeat by Dundee on January 27.

Want highlighted the sales of midfielder Greg Docherty to Rangers and fellow stopper Mikey Devlin to Aberdeen during the January transfer window, and knows he also could earn a move if he continues to progress.

However, taking Hamilton away from the wrong end of the table - Martin Canning's side are eight points ahead of basement side Ross County and five ahead of second-bottom Partick Thistle with two games in hand over both clubs - is his priority.

Ahead of the trip to St Johnstone on Wednesday night, he said: "Look at the amount of players who have been here and moved elsewhere.

"You wouldn't get that many other teams putting you in at a young age. Most teams wouldn't trust players at that age.

"You will always get your chance here. If they feel you are right they will put you in.

"It is all about the player and how you adapt to first-team football and hopefully if you keep working hard people will notice you, but right now I am keeping my focus on keeping Hamilton in this league.

"I have been waiting a long time to get my chance and I got it against Dundee.

"Obviously we didn't get the result but I did okay and have been in the team ever since.

"It is all about being patient, and now I have got my chance I am enjoying it.''

Canning's side face three difficult games in a week.

After the trip to McDiarmid Park, Accies are away to fifth-placed Kilmarnock on Saturday and fourth-placed Hibernian next Tuesday night.

"It doesn't faze me, that's what I relish,'' added Want. You want to be playing against the best and the best players.

"There is a wee bit of pressure. Every game is huge and we need to pick up the three points, but pressure-- is good in football.

"If you don't have that then you can be too relaxed and make mistakes. So it keeps me on my toes.

"We have picked up seven points from nine in the last three matches which was important for us.

"Every one of the games coming up is massive and hopefully I can help and we can keep getting the wins and get in the best possible position.'
