Hamilton Academical have announced John Rankin as their new Head Coach.

Rankin had been a coach at the club since last December and replaces Stuart Taylor, who left last week after just 10 months in charge.

It is Rankin's first full time managerial role.

The 39-year-old played over 600 career matches, appearing for Ross County, Hibernian, Inverness and Dundee United amongst others.

Rankin said: "“I am privileged to sit here as the club’s new Head Coach. Speaking with Allan and the Board I believe that our vision for this football club is very much aligned.

“The fitness levels of the squad are very high but we want to keep improving between now and the Dundee game and I am looking forward to getting the new season underway.”

Accies finished 6th in the Championship last campaign.
