Boss Stephen Robinson had to inform the three players they will not be handed new deals less than 48 hours on from the Steelmen's defeat to Celtic in the William Hill Scottish Cup final.

Loanees Tom Aldred, Nadir Ciftci and Stephen Hendrie are also on the way back to their parent clubs.

Former Everton youth goalkeeper Griffiths arrived 18 months ago on loan from Goodison Park before making his move permanent last summer. But he has made just five starts this season, struggling to oust number one Trevor Carson.

Much was expected of Lithuania international Petravicius, but the winger struggled to settle in Scotland and started only two of his 14 appearances.

Ex-Manchester City defender Plummer also joined last summer but a broken leg limited him to just one outing all term.

Under-20s coach Stephen Craigan has also announced Luke Watt and Dylan King will not be kept on but Barry Maguire - who was named on the bench at Hampden - Shea Gordon, Adam Livingstone, James Scott, Peter Morrison, Jason Krones, Jordan Armstrong, Shaun Bowers and Alfredo Agyeman have all been offered new deals.

Robinson said: "I would like to put on record my thanks to each of the lads leaving the club this week.

"Although Russell, Deimantas and Ellis weren't regular starters in our first team for whatever reason, they contributed significantly by being great professionals and pushing those who were playing.

"I'd also like to record my appreciation to Tom, Nadir and Stephen, who joined us during the January window and helped us finish the season so strongly.

"We have been working on recruiting new players over the last few weeks. This summer will be different to last, where we made wholesale changes to the squad. We are more concentrated on fine-tuning and tweaking certain areas, adding things we think we're missing, and that's our mission.'
