Griffiths hails LIsbon Lions as achievement is commemorated in new kit
Leigh Griffiths hailed Celtic's Lisbon Lions whose European Cup-winning achievement has been commemorated in a new kit.
Several thousand Hoops fans turned up outside Celtic Park on Thursday afternoon for the launch of next season's strip which pays tribute to the side which beat Inter Milan 2-1 in the Lisbon final in 1967.
In his first season in charge of the Parkhead club, Brendan Rodgers' side are unbeaten domestically and one William Hill Scottish Cup final win against Aberdeen away from clinching the treble albeit their European adventure ended in the group stages of the Champions League.
However, after modelling the kit with several of his Hoops team-mates, Griffiths looked at the achievement of the club's most famous side.
"We always have to remember what these guys did," said the 26-year-old striker.
"They will be legends for the rest of their lives
"There is talk of us being invincible and stuff but I don't think we can come close to winning the European Cup.
"Especially when you look at the Champions League now, the teams that are in it, it is virtually impossible for a team like Celtic to win it now.
"It makes what they did in 1967 that (bit) more important.
"The manager has said that he wants us to compete in the Champions League. Hopefully we get there next season as well and maybe progress in to the next round."
The Scotland striker has played second fiddle to Moussa Dembele for most of the season.
However, he was back in the side and scored his 15th goal of the season in the 5-1 win over Rangers at Ibrox last week due to the French striker sustaining a hamstring injury which leaves him a doubt for the showpiece finale against the Dons.
Griffiths said: "It is unfortunate Moussa got injured and that's why I got my chance.
"It happened earlier in the season when I was injured and Moussa came in and stepped up to the plate.
"I am looking forward to the next few games and hopefully I can repay the gaffer.
"I want to play as many games as I can but whether it is one goal or five I score it doesn't make a difference to me as long as the team are still winning games and progressing well."
