Giorgos Giakoumakis leaves Celtic for Atlanta United

Celtic have sold striker Giorgos Giakoumakis to Atlanta United.

The Greek international has secured his move to the USA after weeks of speculation surrounding his future.

Giakoumakis had also been linked with potential moves to Italy, Scandanavia and Japan.

He had been at Celtic Park for 18 months and scored 26 goals but failed to agree a new contract.

The 28-year-old moved to Glasgow from VVV Venlo in 2021 for a £2.5m fee and appeared 57 times in green and white.

Giakoumakis was the joint top scorer in the Premiership last campaign and scored in the Champions League this season.

In an Instagram post, he said: "Well, that difficult time has arrived! It was an incredible journey! I loved and was loved by the incomparable, amazing Celtic fans! Thank you very much! You will forever be in my heart and mind! I will be forever grateful to you! Goodbye. Your GG!"

Talk of an impending exit came as a surprise to many although the Hoops have already signed a potential replacement, Hyeongyu Oh, for £2.5m.

The 21-year-old Korean forward joined from Suwon Bluewings on a five-year deal and became Ange Postecoglou's fourth and final addition of the January window.
