Gerrard would have my full support as Gers boss, says Klopp
It is understood the former Reds captain is the favourite for the Ibrox hotseat
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Steven Gerrard will have his full support if he becomes the next Rangers manager.
However, the German joked that if Everton or Manchester United ever come calling, he wouldn't afford the same courtesy.
It is understood the former Reds and England captain, currently coach of the club's under-18s, is the front runner for the job at Ibrox.
"I am not worried because if - and it's a big if - something happens it was always clear he was, is and will always be a Liverpool legend,'' Klopp said.
"Whatever he wants to do we support him in that, it's as easy as that. If he thinks he is ready, he is ready.
"I can imagine clubs are interested in signing Stevie. He has massive experiences as player and now he is a manager.
"I would think about him as well if I owned a club.
"One day it will happen, either here or somewhere else. It's his decision and he is old enough to decide that.
"If he thinks he wants to do something different - a really big if - we will be completely happy for him and as long as it is not manager of Everton or Manchester United we would still help him if he has questions.''
Gerrard has guided his side to third in the under-18 Premier League North table and if he wins his final match of the season at Manchester City on Saturday they would leapfrog their opponents to finish runners-up behind Manchester United.
He has also overseen the development of players like Curtis Jones and Rafael Camacho, who have quickly progressed from the under-18s to under-23 regulars and have trained regularly with the first team at Melwood.
Klopp has been impressed with the job done by the 37-year-old.
"He wanted to learn, he learned. He wanted to do the job, he did the job,'' he added.
"As a Liverpool youth coach you have plenty of good players around so it is a really good start and he used the time.
"He had a very good first part of the season when all players were available and then we started giving players loans which means other players came into our squad - that is not the nicest part for a youth coach and I can imagine he will not miss that.
"It was quite quick learning and he did it.'
