Steven Gerrard admits he's concerned about Filip Helander after he was stretchered off in their 2-1 win over St Johnstone.

The Sweden international had to be replaced by Jack Simpson in the 77th minute as the Ibrox side came back to win all three points.

Helander looked to be in pain as he was forced off, with his manager admitting it doesn't look good.

He told Sky Sports: "I'm concerned, he's at the doctors now getting assessed.

"He's got ice on, and is getting bandaged up. It doesn't look good but until we scan it and assess it in maybe 24/48 hours time we are not too sure.

"Fingers crossed he can pull through but we have other defenders who can step up if he is missing for the short or medium or long term."

Leon Balogun also started the match after Connor Goldson missed out on a place in the squad.

Goldson has been forced to self-isolate and missed his first game since January 2020.

Gerrard's unsure when he'll be back available.

He said: "He said: "I am hoping he will be available, we will need to speak to the doctors, I am not too sure about the timescale.

"Hopefully he will be available but if not we will go with Jack Simpson and Leon Balogun who are more than capable."
