Gemmill has high hopes for Scotland despite defeat to England

Scotland Under-21 manager Scot Gemmill insists his side's defeat against England has had no bearing on their preparations for Tuesday's showdown with Latvia.

England ran out comfortable 3-1 winners against Scotland in their 2019 European Championships qualifier at the Riverside Stadium last Friday.

But Gemmill believes the defeat has not dented confidence within the Scottish camp, and he has instead urged his side to replicate the performance from last month's victory against Holland when they face Latvia at the Daugava Stadium.

"I don't think the game the other night against England has had any impact on our preparations for Latvia," Gemmill said.

"We're working with a really good bunch of motivated players and there's a real willingness to put in the work, which needs to be there every single time we play.

"It was a really strong performance against the Netherlands. While the England game wasn't as strong, we make allowances for that being a very difficult game. We need to get back to the way we were in the opener.
