Former Rangers coach Michael Beale set to be appointed new QPR boss
Beale is set to take up his first management role after working under Steven Gerrard
Former Rangers coach Michael Beale is set to be announced as the new manager of Queens Park Rangers.
The 41-year-old worked closely with Steven Gerrard during their time at Ibrox and joined him at Aston Villa last November.
The Premier League side have now given QPR permission to speak to Beale with various reports suggesting his appointment is now imminent.
Beale has also coached at Chelsea and had a short spell with Sao Paulo in Brazil.
He will take over from former Rangers manager Mark Warburton who left his role at QPR at the end of the season.
QPR finished 11th in the Championship despite floating around the play-off places earlier in the campaign.
Gerrard has previously spoken very highly of Beale, Gerrard telling The Robbie Fowler Podcast “It would take me 15 to 20 years to become as good as Michael Beale as an on-pitch coach, delivering sessions on a daily basis, so I let Mick be Mick because he's the expert.
"What I'll never do is try to do someone else's job when they are better than me at doing it. A lot of people won't have a clue what Michael Beale does on the training pitch, but what he does is really quite special.
“I haven’t had the luxury of retiring early from the game or not being a player, in terms of having that pitch time to really become a coach for the past 20 years like a Brendan Rodgers, a Mourinho or a Michael Beale.”
