Former "prodigy" Odin Thiago Holm can fulfil his potential at Celtic
Holm can be a big hit according to Norwegian football expert Jonas Giæver
Odin Thiago Holm is the ‘perfect fit’ for Celtic and has the 'huge potential' required to succeed in Glasgow according to Norwegian football expert Jonas Giæver.
Celtic made the 20-year-old their first signing of the summer last week after agreeing a £2.6million fee with Valarenga for his services.
Holm first broke into the team as a 17-year-old and went on to make 58 appearances for the club, scoring eight times.
Norway have recently seen two of their young stars, Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, become two of the best attacking players in the world.
Giæver, a Norwegian football writer who was the founder of football trivia app fcQuiz, claimed that Holm was once held in a similar regard.
Giæver said: "When he was younger he was chased by the biggest clubs in the world and viewed as a prodigy but he has struggled a lot with injuries.
"It's unfair to compare him to Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard but the potential is there.
"If he's able to reach anything like they have then Celtic will have one of the best players in European football on their hands."
He added that he expects him to fit in perfectly with Brendan Rodgers style of play, given his technical ability: "He's a player that fits like a glove into any team that is looking to dominate games.
"He's a tremendous player on the ball, someone who rarely has a bad game."
However, it may not be plain sailing for Holm.
The playmaker joins an already impressive midfield, with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Aaron Mooy, David Turnbull and Tomoki Iwata providing the competition in that position.
Giæver urged supporters to not expect too much too soon from Holm: "Celtic fans need to be patient with him. They need to remember he's a young kid who has only played for one club in Norway.
"He's a project but one that could turn into something incredibly exciting for all involved.
"Rodgers has a history of developing young players and Holm's ceiling is incredibly high.
"If they are able to nurture that and get the best out of him then he will be a big sale for them in a couple of years time."
The Premiership season begins on 5 August.
