Richie Foran accused his Inverness players of a lack of passion after they sunk to a 3-0 Premiership defeat to St Johnstone.

Caley Thistle are four points adrift at the bottom of the table and shipped three against a Saints side that punished the hosts going down to 10 men.

Steven MacLean's scrappy effort gave the visitors the lead just before the break and following Larnell Cole's red card, the Caley Jags collapsed and a Liam Craig penalty and Graham Cummins strike punished them further.

Foran was again displeased with his side's efforts, who failed to capitalise on Motherwell and Hamilton Accies above them dropping points.

“We folded in the last 10 minutes. There was a lack of courage and confidence. That's a worry. it's the first time we've really let our supporters down with a lack of passion and desire,” he said.

“We dominated the first half, put a lot of crosses in the box and had chances to go ahead. St Johnstone had two crosses and scored from one, so we're not defending well either.

“There's no more excuses. It's not good enough and the main person it's not good enough for is me. I pick the team. But the players need to stand up and be counted.

“The majority of the supporters' anger should be at me. I can fully understand them. I apologise to them as it's the first time I feel we've really let them down.”

Saints boss Tommy Wright saw his team round off the week with a second win, following their midweek triumph over Hearts.

He was pleased that his side went for the jugular following Cole's sending off and put the home side to the sword.

“The sending off took them by surprise. It's a difficult situation they're in - they're trying to get back in the game, lose a player and it can be soul-destroying. We capitalised on that,” said Wright. “They dropped their levels a wee bit and maybe thought the game was over - we had to make sure it was and we did.

“I'm really pleased with the performance. We had to defend set pieces and balls in the box and the most pleasing thing was after the sending off, we were ruthless.”
