Defender Peter Hartley says it was an easy decision to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Motherwell after making his loan deal a permanent move.

The centre-back has made 17 appearances for the Ladbrokes Premiership club since joining from Blackpool on loan in August.

The deal was announced in style with a Twitter video of Hartley playing a mini piano in a pastiche of Manchester United's confirmation of the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Hartley told Motherwell's official website: "It was a very, very easy decision to make. I've been at this club for six months and it's a fantastic dressing room, probably one of the best I've been in.

"It's a club that's trying to move forward and achieve things. I want to be part of that. I have enjoyed every moment. I've played at Hampden twice in the (Betfred Cup) semi-final and final.

"We went on a good unbeaten run. I've made a lot of good friends in the dressing room. I've got nothing but good words to say about the coaching staff and everybody around the club.''

The 29-year-old former Hartlepool, Plymouth and Bristol Rovers player added: "It's just the right place for me in my career right now. I'm happy to commit my future to the club.''

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson said: "Securing the future of Peter is a massive boost to this football club and everything we are trying to achieve.

"As soon as the opportunity came up to get him on a permanent deal, we wasted no time in getting the transfer done.'
