Dundee boss Neil McCann blasts officials for failing to send off Partick Thistle keeper

Tomas Cerny went on to save the resulting penalty

Dundee manager Neil McCann believes Partick Thistle goalkeeper Tomas Cerny was lucky to stay on the pitch after conceding a penalty in their Ladbrokes Premiership clash.

Cerny was only shown a yellow card by referee Euan Anderson after he brought down Ajay Leitch-Smith in the penalty area during Dundee's 2-1 defeat.

Dark Blues boss McCann believed the decision was a double blow for his side as Thistle should have been down to 10 men and the keeper then saved the resulting penalty.

“That's the defining moment (the penalty save). I saw the Partick Thistle players going over to him at the end because it was the defining moment,” McCann said.

“I don't think Cerny makes any attempt to get the ball. Now the rules are, if you make a genuine attempt to get the ball it's a booking, there is no attempt there to win the ball - he has cleaned out the player.

“Without doubt I am absolutely fizzing inside because it takes me all my control at the side of the pitch not to lose my rag and get sent to the stand.

“That's a disgraceful decision today. There is no attempt (to win the ball), I don't care what anyone says. He should have walked.”

Meanwhile, Thistle assistant manager Scott Paterson praised his side's character to come from a goal behind to win the game.

Miles Storey's strike at the death gave Thistle their first win in the league this season.

The Firhill side are now on level points with relegation rivals Kilmarnock but remain bottom of the table on goal difference.

“The main thing for us is that we won the game” said Paterson.

“We were in the dressing room at half time and we were still in it, yes Tam saved a penalty but we were still in it and the players deserve so much credit.

“Especially when we were at home and the confidence has been low after the run we've been on, I think they showed a lot of character and I'm delighted that they pulled through and got the three points.

“They are a good team. I've watched them a few times this year and I think that comes with confidence. You lose an early goal and then there is the penalty incident but like I say, I'm delighted with the character that we showed.

“Obviously Tam pulled off another great save in the second half but we don't care, as long as we win the game and now we're looking to build on this for Tuesday night's game against Hamilton."
