Dominic Hyam wins first Scotland call-up

Blackburn Rovers defender Dominic Hyam has won his first Scotland call-up.

The 27-year old has been a key player for the English Championship side this season as they look to secure a promotion play-off place.

Hyam was born in Leuchars where his dad was based during his time in the Royal Air Force.

The family moved back down south with centre-back joining Reading's youth academy years later.

He has represented Scotland at youth level, gaining five caps for the under-21's.

Hyam joined Blackburn from Coventry City last summer for a reported fee of £1.5million.

His performances have caught the eye of national team boss Steve Clarke.

Celtic full-back Anthony Ralston has also been drafted into the squad with Jack Hendry forced out through injury.

Scotland play Cyprus at Hampden on Saturday afternoon before welcoming Spain to the national stadium on Tuesday

Asked about his international ambitions earlier this month, Hyam told The Sportsman:

"Personally I've just got to keep doing my best.

"All I can do is focus on what I'm doing on the pitch and try and keep some consistency. That's one of the big things you need as a centre-half".
