Connor Goldson has jumped to the defence of his new Rangers centre-back colleague John Souttar after the Scotland international endured a chastening competitive debut away to Livingston.

The ex-Hearts and Dundee United player struggle to cope with Joel Nouble at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Saturday.

Rangers fought back to win the game 2-1 but Souttar was substitued in the second half by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Goldson said: "I've been really, really impressed by him from the first week.

"I was disappointed on Saturday because I saw a few things on the internet and things like that, people obviously talking bad just because he's had one game where he probably made a few mistakes.

"We've all been there, I've been written off plenty of times by Rangers fans but I see him every single day so I have no doubts at all he's going to be an unbelievable signing for this football club.

"He’s an international player, 25-years old and he’s played however many games in Scottish football.

"We know what we’ve signed. We all know the pressure that comes with joining Rangers. You can’t judge people off one game.

"Livingston away is not an easy place to go with the pitch and the way they play. I’ve been more impressed seeing him in training.

"I knew he was a good player playing against Hearts, but everything he does is so crisp with the ball.

"He throws himself infront of everything and I’m so excited to play with him.
