Compper nears Celtic switch
Celtic target Marvin Compper has touched down in Scotland ahead of his imminent Parkhead switch - and Hoops assistant Chris Davies reckons he fits the bill perfectly for the champions.
The RB Leipzig central defender flew into Edinburgh Airport from Frankfurt on Tuesday afternoon as he inches towards a reported £1million move.
The 32-year-old former Germany international still has to complete a medical but, barring any last-minute hitches, should complete his move this week.
And his arrival will boost boss Brendan Rodgers as he looks to cut out the costly mistakes that ended the Hoops' 69-game domestic unbeaten run during Sunday's shock 4-0 hammering by Hearts.
Now Rodgers' right-hand man Davies has welcomed Compper's impending arrival.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday night's clash with Partick Thistle, he said: "It's not something that is done yet and obviously we're not going to talk too much about a player that is not ours.
"But he is a player who fits the profile for what we see as being a good centre-half.
"You can see that he is used to a similar game style at Leipzig and other teams he has played at."
Celtic's transfer kitty will increase again after Rodgers' team clinched qualification to the Europa League round of 32 with their third-place finish in the Champions League group stages.
But Davies does not expect to see many more new arrivals when the window opens in just under two weeks' time.
"I wouldn't say we will be overly busy to be honest," he said. "We'll do what is best for us but I wouldn't envision us being overly busy.
"We'll recruit where needed and some players may move on as the squad evolves. We have a strong squad with good players but we're always looking to improve.
