Chris Cadden insists Scotland U21 boss Scot Gemmill has plenty of passion

Scotland Under-21 boss Scot Gemmill may come across as the quiet man of football but winger Chris Cadden insists he will have no trouble firing up his side to face England.

The Scots face the Auld Enemy at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium in Friday night's Euro 2019 qualifier.

Gemmill has opted against making bold predictions ahead of the clash, preferring to let his youngsters' feet do the talking.

But Cadden says his tight-lipped approach should not be mistaken for a lack of passion and believes Gemmill will make sure his team are just as well prepared to face Aidy Boothroyd's side as they were for last month's surprise win over Holland.

"The gaffer is very passionate and that rubs off on his players," said the Motherwell wideman. "He knows the pride involved when you play for Scotland.

"He's always making sure all the boys have that pride - and we all do. Each of us goes out and plays like our lives depend on it.

"Scot might not be hyping us up outside, but in the changing room he is always telling us we have quality and he's right. Just look at Oliver Burke, he's just moved to West Brom for ÂŁ15million so he's going to be a decent player.

"We know England will have to be at the top of their game to beat us.

"Before the Holland game everybody was saying that the Dutch were a really good team. But the boys were full of confidence and believed we could get a result. We had a game plan which the gaffer put together and we trusted in it.

"We executed it perfectly and ended up winning 2-0.

"The gaffer has already told us he's got a plan for England and if we execute this one the same as we did against Holland then there's no reason why we can't get three points off England as well."

Gemmill will have to come up with a way of stopping a Young Lions line-up containing Premier League starlets such as Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, Everton midfielder Tom Davies, Crystal Palace's Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But Cadden thinks he and his team-mates can show they are ready to go all the way to the top themselves and break into Gordon Strachan's full Scotland squad if they can pull another victory out of the bag.

"For me Scotland-England at any level will be a big game," he said. "I'm really looking forward to it. Looking at England's line-up I'm sure it will be a good game.

"They are a good side. They have quality individuals

"It's going to be a good test for me on a personal level to go up against the best and see what the standard is like.

"Because we're playing against such good players you know if you can prove yourself here there's no reason why you can't go on to the full squad.
