The Green Brigade have had their season tickets suspended by Celtic due to ‘unacceptable conduct’ that has led to 'serious safety concerns'.

The fan group, which is housed in the north curve of the stadium, say they’ve been told that they will no longer be allowed to attend home or away matches 'pending further review'.

The club say the suspension is based on safety ground after several incidents this season.

The use of pyrotechnics, forced entry to stadiums and both unsafe and abusive behaviour towards staff have been cited as reasons for the ban.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “To avoid any misunderstanding, the progressive steps taken by the Club over a period of time are as a result of an increasingly serious escalation in unacceptable behaviours and non-compliance with applicable regulations, at matches at Celtic Park and away grounds over a period of time, which are creating serious safety concerns and other issues”.

The club say it has nothing to do with fan support for Palestine.

Sections of the Celtic support have had a long standing affinity with territories - flags have been a regular sight at Parkhead for many years.

It has seen Celtic fined by UEFA twice before.

Last week the board specifically asked fans not to show symbols relating to the Middle East conflict during the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Despite this, thousands of flags were on show.
