Lewis Morgan confident he can make impact at Celtic

The St Mirren star is hoping for first team starts with the Hoops

Lewis Morgan has "supreme confidence'' that he can make an impact at Celtic next season.

The Scotland Under-21s winger was given assurances that he would get a first-team chance when he signed for the Hoops in January before immediately returning to St Mirren on loan.

The 21-year-old had further discussions with manager Brendan Rodgers in the wake of Celtic's title-clinching 5-0 rout of Rangers on Sunday and admits it is now down to him to make the breakthrough at Parkhead.

Morgan said: "Obviously Celtic are a really busy club and are mostly playing two games a week, so I know the staff have had a really hectic schedule, but I have had messages from the manager and I spoke to him on Sunday to congratulate him on their success as he has done with mine.

"It's been well-documented - his man-management skills and the manager at St Mirren (Jack Ross) takes after that as well and is a very similar character.

"To take time out of his schedule to congratulate me or speak to me obviously means a lot.

"I knew when I met Brendan Rodgers that he was going to give me a chance, he said he wouldn't bring me in if that wasn't the case.

"It's all down to me now, I don't think anyone else can help. It's up to me, if I'm training well and get into the manager's thoughts then that would be brilliant.''

Morgan hit 19 goals this season for club and country as he helped St Mirren to the Ladbrokes Championship title.

And he is determined to take that form into the start of his Celtic career next season.

"I'm going to be given every chance and the platform is going to be there,'' he said.

"I am just going to have to hit the ground running because you saw by Sunday's dominance they are the best team in the country by a mile. That's all down to the hard work they are doing.

"To get into that team will be difficult but I'm sure if I can force myself into the reckoning then I can really kick on.

"I wouldn't have signed if I didn't think I could break into the squad. There were other options but I couldn't turn down Celtic.

"I have got supreme confidence in myself and I know that if I can do what I have been doing this season for St Mirren and translate that on to the bigger stage and make that step up, then there's no reason why not.''

Morgan capped a dream season by being named PFA Scotland Championship player of the year on Sunday.

Morgan, who was in the top four of the young player votes, said: "I don't think you could write it, to be honest. At the start of the season I harboured ambitions of going up but to do it in the style we did, and to get my move to Celtic, has been remarkable.

"It's been a great season individually and collectively."
