Celtic have signed defender Auston Trusty on a five-year deal.

The Scottish champions have paid Sheffield United £6m for his services.

The 26-year-old was bought by Arsenal in 2022 but never played a game for the club and was sold to Sheffield United a year later.

He played 32 times in the Premier League last season.

The American has made two appearances for his national team.

Trusty becomes Celtic's latest addition late in the window, after Brendan Rodgers called for "quality signings" before Friday's transfer deadline.

After completing the signing, the manager told the club's official website: “We are so pleased to sign Auston and he is a really welcome addition to our squad.

"He is a quick, strong, athletic defender with great ability and good experience and a player who has done really well to make his way to the USA national squad.

"We are really looking forward to working with Auston. I know he is really excited to be joining Celtic and looking forward to facing the challenges ahead and playing his part as we strive to bring our fans success once again.”

He will bolster Rodgers' backline and may partner compatriot Cameron Carter-Vickers on the left hand side of central defence.

Celtic face Rangers on Sunday.
