Investigations after racist and homophobic abuse in League 2 match
Both Bonnyrigg Rose and Stenhousemuir have launched investigations, after alleged incidents of racist and homophobic language being used by supporters during their match on Saturday
League 2 clubs Bonnyrigg Rose and Stenhousemuir have launched investigations after "two extremely disappointing" incidents during their match on Saturday.
The fixture, played at Midlothian based Rose's New Dundas Park, finished 1-0 to the visitors.
But Stenhousemuir say they've been made aware of two incidents during the match.
First it's alleged a member of the home support targeted a Stenny player with a "racist remark".
Then it's said a "homophobic remark" was shouted from the Stenhousemuir support towards a Rose player.
Both clubs have apologised to each other, and launched investigations into the incidents.
A statement on the Stenhousemuir website said: "There is no such thing as âbanterâ or âa jokeâ when it comes to racism or homophobia.
"Stenhousemuir Football Club will tolerate neither, and we join with our colleagues at Bonnyrigg Rose in acting swiftly and severely to deal with any such incidents."
Whilst Bonnyrigg Rose Treasurer Brendan Parkinson said:
"I would like to thank Iain McMenemy and Stenhousemuir football club for their full co-operation and assistance.
"Our club is proud to have players, committee, staff and supporters from a number of different backgrounds and cultures, and will continue to work alongside all other clubs throughout the country to ensure that all forms of discrimination are kicked out of the game."
Both clubs have asked any supporters who can help with information on the incidents to come forward.
