John Bennett steps down as Rangers Chairman due to health reasons
Last updated 14th Sep 2024
Rangers have announced that John Bennett is stepping down from his role as Chairman due to health reasons.
Bennett will step down with immediate effect.
The 61-year old has been on the board at Ibrox for nine years but only stepped up from his position as vice-chairman 18 months ago, replacing Douglas Park.
During that time Rangers have won one league title, one Scottish Cup, one League Cup and reached the 2022 Europa League final in Seville.
Former Director, John Gilligan, will temporarily fulfil the role until the club appoint a permanent replacement.
It means Rangers are now without a chairman or a chief executive.
Bennett had been trying to appoint a new CEO after James Bisgrove left to take up a role in Saudi Arabia in the summer.
Rangers face a trip to Dundee United on Sunday.
