The visitors ended Dundee's impressive four-month unbeaten home record courtesy of Julen Etxabeguren's 29th minute own goal which was enough to separate the sides on Tayside.

Partick were the last team to win at Dens Park on October 26 and did the same again as they held on against Paul Hartley's team who had gone into the game with confidence following their 5-1 hammering of Motherwell.

Archibald said: "It was the perfect away performance really so I'm delighted."

Partick had not always had a good record at Dundee, as Archibald freely admitted.

He said: "We didn't used to have a great record here, it wasn't a happy hunting ground but it has been lately.

"We didn't sit in during the first half but every time the ball was turned over we looked dangerous.

"Dundee put us under pressure in the last 15 minutes but we handled it well."

Archibald said the win would give his side confidence for the battles ahead.

"We have real confidence now, we have a tough cup tie against Aberdeen but we're looking forward to it. Aberdeen are a really good team, I watched them against Hamilton the other night and they were very good even though they lost. We'll go there and give it a real go."

Dundee boss Paul Hartley revealed Spanish central defender Etxabeguren had suffered a suspected ruptured Achilles before being carried off on a stretcher.

Hartley said: "Julen is away to hospital and we think he may have ruptured his Achilles.

"It looks like it could be a bad one for him which is a massive blow because he's been doing really well for us. We will just have to wait and see what the hospital say."

With regard to the game Hartley admitted his side had not performed up to their recent standards.

"I didn't think it was a great game but our quality wasn't there tonight."
