Queen Makes Splash At Swimming

The Queen met swimmers from Scotland, Australia and South Africa as she visited the venue for the sport at the Commonwealth Games. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow as they watched heats of the men's 50m butterfly and the women's 100m butterfly. The Queen, dressed in a green coat, blue dress and matching hat, was joined by Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond and Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg as she was introduced to volunteers. Competition manager Helen Jacques sat between the Queen and Philip as they watched the heats. She said: I was really happy to talk to them about all of our top swimmers and all the work we have done to the building to get it ready for the event.'' She said the Queen had described the swimmers asvery fast'', adding that the heats had been close finishes''.
