A Glasgow based psychotherapist has set up support groups for male survivors of sexual abuse to share their traumatic experiences.

As we get ready for World Suicide Prevention Day tomorrow, Jeremy Sachs wants cis and transgender men to come together to exchange coping mechanisms and help each other.

He told Clyde 1: "Often these victims feel a lot of shame and so we look at ways for people to deal with that and we examine different relationships from family relationships to sexual relationships.

"There are so many stigmas and myths about men in society that limit them from talking about any kind of mental health issue.

"We all know there is a crisis in men with suicide rates going through the roof."

"It is such a relief to come to a space where you are not hiding something"

The weekly closed support groups will run in three month blocks where the same men will return each week as they get to know each other and form bonds.

Reunion sessions will then be held every so often to make sure people do not feel like the help isn't just disappearing.

Jeremy added: "Even if they don't all agree about what impacts the abuse has had, they can share stories and there is a lot of learning going on.

"It is such a relief to come to a space where you are not hiding something that can feel like a really dark and shameful secret.

"You can talk about football, have a cup of tea, talk about relationships and just know that the person you're talking to has an idea of what you are going through.

"I am also there to make sure that these groups are there to be a safe space and any information that is shared remains confidential."
