Work set to improve safety at university campus where Glasgow student was fatally injured
'Campbell was well-known and liked, and his tutors describe him as a brilliant, engaged, and enthusiastic student'
Work's set to begin shortly on improving safety at a university campus where a Glasgow student was fatally injured earlier this month.
It follows concerns not enough's being done to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.
It's understood Campbell Hunter - who was just 18-years-old and from Peebles, in the Scottish Borders - was hurt in a fall from a wall at Strathclyde University around 1.50am on December the 9th.
And, despite being rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment, later died of his injuries.
Uni chiefs say the area has been assessed and the wall will be "modified" to prevent anyone from sitting on it in future.
Posting on Twitter, John Kearns said it was "an obvious hazard".
"The wall is about three feet high with a six metre drop and is completely hidden by surrounding bushes," he explained. "Students are always sat here despite having on-site security and yet there is still no signage/railings to stop people.
"It's honestly surprising this has never happened before and someone needs to be held accountable for such a waste of an amazing life."
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the teenager's death and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Strathclyde University declined to comment at the time. But in a statement today, a spokesman said: "The university community is deeply saddened by the death of one our students. Campbell was well-known and liked, and his tutors describe him as a brilliant, engaged, and enthusiastic student.
"He had already made an excellent start to his studies, and will be missed enormously.

"Since the tragedy, our student support services have been in touch with Campbell's family and friends, and support remains available to anyone who has been affected."
They add: "The area has been assessed and work will begin shortly to modify the wall to prevent anyone from sitting on it."
