Woman treated in hospital after deliberate fire in Paisley

Police want to speak to a group of people who were nearby at the time

Police are are hunting for whoever set a fire at a block of flats in Paisley, which left a woman requiring hospital treatment.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in Thrushcraig Crescent in the town at around 21:05 on Friday night.

The blaze caused significant damage to the close, and a 40-year-old woman was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for assessment and later released.

Police discovered that the fire had been started when a wheelie bin was deliberately set alight, and are keen to speak to a group of people who were nearby at the time.

Detective Constable Jane Perratt at Paisley CID said:

“It is vital that we catch the person or persons responsible for this stupid and cowardly act as they may do something like this again resulting in serious injuries or even fatalities.

“I urge anyone who has any information that could assist our inquiry to get in touch with police immediately. I am especially keen to speak to a group of 5 males and females that were heard in the street just prior to the fire being discovered in the close.”
