A woman is to stand trial charged with a hammer attack on an 88 year-old man.

Gillian Lavery is accused of trying to kill Thomas Winter at a flat in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire in February this year.

Prosecutors claim the 41 year-old repeatedly hit the OAP with the hammer and a walking stick as well as robbing him of a set of keys.

The attempted murder charge states she assaulted Mr Winter to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well to the danger of his life.

Lavery, also of Clydebank, faces a separate allegation of being in possession of drugs.

Her lawyer Frances Connor pled not guilty on her behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Lavery has also lodged a special defence of self defence.

Judge Lady Rae set a trial due to start in December. The case could last around four days.
