A woman has died and a teenage boy is being treated in hospital after a crash between two cars near Helensburgh.

Police said the 32-year-old woman was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa in Rosneath Road towards Clynder at around 6pm on Monday when a silver Ford Mondeo being driven in the other direction apparently lost control, moved across the road and collided with her vehicle.

Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old man driving the Mondeo was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment to minor injuries and later released.

His 15-year-old male passenger was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to a leg injury and is said to be in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Inspector Adam McKenzie said: I would appeal to anyone who was driving on the B833 yesterday evening, who may have witnessed the crash or noticed a silver Ford Mondeo driving on the road prior to the incident, to please get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the divisional road policing unit based at Dumbarton via 101 and quote incident number 2961 of Monday August 31 2017.'
