Woman dies in Ayrshire three car crash

The 72 year old driver was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday evening

A 72 year old woman has died after a crash near Galston, Ayrshire.

The incident happened at around 5.25pm on Saturday 20 July on the A71, and involved a white Vauxhall Corsa, a blue Volkswagon Golf convertible, and a green Land Rover Discovery.

Emergency services pronounced the woman, who was the driver of the Golf, dead at the scene.

The 37 year old male driver of the Corsa was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where his condition has been described as serious but stable.

There were no other injuries, and the road was closed and re-opened at around 1.30am on Sunday.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch.

“Likewise, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then make contact with officers.”
