Hundreds of Extinction Rebellion activists have blocked Waterloo Street in Glasgow in the most disruptive protest of Cop26 so far.

The protest called the "Trillion Dollar Bash" was advertised through the group's social media channels urging activists to gather at midday.

The group says the aim of the protest is to call out banks and their profits made from investment in fossil fuels.

The Red Rebels later joined in on the protest and demonstrators formed a circle on Waterloo Street before dancing and waving flags.

The campaign group set off on a march from Waterloo Street to the SEC, where the Cop26 summit is being held, in Finnieston.

One protester told Radio Clyde News that they are demonstrating because those in power are "not telling the truth about how bad the climate emergency is" and "how fast it's coming towards us".

Campaigners were stopped from marching through Charing Cross for more than an hour by police officers who formed a line at the bottom of St. Vincent Street.

Protesters insisted that they would continue to march.

Police formed a ring around the activists in a bid to keep road disruption to a minimum as the group continued to march towards the Squinty Bridge.

Extinction Rebellion members reached the Clyde Arc - near the Cop26 summit venue - at around 5pm.
