The heartbroken family of a boy who died after getting into difficulty in the River Tay is holding a football match in Glasgow for emergency crews.

Medics battled to save 12-year-old Kayden Walker after a water sports tragedy near Stanley, Perthshire in July 2019.

His older brother Kai Thomson, who wants other families to receive the same support, told Clyde News that he will always be indebted to medical staff.

'Forever in their debt'

The 23-year-old said: "They gave him the best chance. It also meant getting him to the hospital quicker, then meant we could see him quicker as well.

"For Glasgow Children's Hospital, I'll be forever in their debt."

The special fundraiser will be held at Glasgow Green on Saturday (July 23) in support of Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

Despite three years since Kayden's passing, this time of year is a painful reminder to Kai of what happened to him.

'Accident after accident'

He hopes that holding charity events like these will help other people in need.

Kai said: "All I'm seeing every summer is accident after accident in relation to water, whether it's people at beaches or cliffs and stuff.

"It's good to be able to get everyone together every summer - family, friends, even just people rom the community that Kayden might not have known personally."
