WATCH: Family in appeal for missing pensioner Matthew Bowie
The family of a missing elderly man have made a public appeal for his safe return.
Matthew Bowie, 83, was last seen outside his home in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, on Sunday morning.
The active pensioner regularly travels about the town but has never been missing before and relatives are worried he has not been in touch.
His niece Alison Graham, 56, told a press conference: He enjoyed going out and he was the type of uncle, friend, that if you were doing something he would always follow it up to see how you got on.
That's what makes it so difficult that we haven't heard anything from him.
He enjoyed walking, he's interested in history and a bit of an explorer. Not a surprise that he would take off locally and follow up something on his walk.''
Since he was reported missing on Tuesday, police have been checking areas where Mr Bowie was known to frequent, including the canal path towards Cadder Road, the cafe at Lambhill Stables and Cadder Church Hall in Kirkintilloch Road.
He was last seen by a neighbour outside his home at Gleneagles Gardens.
Inspector Gerry Corrigan said: I'd ask that people that live, work and travel in and around Bishopbriggs to have a really good look at the photograph and if they have seen Matt out and about to contact Police Scotland immediately.''
Mr Bowie is around 5ft 8ins, slim and with white/grey receding hair. He normally wears dark trousers, a shirt and a jumper, however it is not known what he was wearing when last seen.
