There is a warning parents are struggling to fill the time over the summer holidays because of the rising cost of living with single-parent families the worst affected.

The city council is looking for people's views on school term dates between 2024-2026 with some people suggesting the Christmas break needs to be extended.

Leanne McGuire from Glasgow City Parents Group said: "Some families are feeling the length of the summer more than any other year because they are still trying to recover from the effects of covid.

"This coupled with the rising cost-of-living is making things really tough.

"There are so many financial pressures when trying to cover the cost of entertainment, food and childcare."

Some parents have commented on the city council's consultation asking for a shorter summer holiday.

Leanne added: "Some people only have 28 days of annual leave a year and that can be a challenge trying to make sure you get enough time off to see your children."
