'Violent' passenger results in Glasgow flight being diverted
Jet 2 flight had to divert to France after man became "increasingly violent"
A "disruptive and violent'' passenger forced a flight from Barcelona to Glasgow to be diverted to France.
Airline Jet2.com said the captain had "no option'' but divert to Nantes in order to protect passengers and crew from the "increasingly violent'' man on Friday.
He was given a lifetime ban from the airline and handed over to local police on arrival in France.
Jet2 and Police Scotland are investigating the incident, with the airline aiming to recover the costs incurred by the diversion between Reus and Glasgow airports.
Managing director Phil Ward said: "This passenger's conduct was absolutely unacceptable.
"We apologise to those customers who had to witness such disruptive and abusive behaviour, and for the delay to their journey home.
"Our Onboard Together initiative commits us to a zero-tolerance stance against such anti-social actions.
"Passengers should be in no doubt that the consequences of being overly aggressive towards fellow customers and our crew will lead to a divert and subsequent fines and prosecutions.
"Since Jet2.com launched Onboard Together, more than 500 passengers have been refused travel due to disruptive behaviour and 58 of these have been given lifetime bans.
"Jet2.com is working closely with airlines, airports, trade associations and other industry partners to create a consistent and robust response to this issue. It is also actively consulting with government bodies and MPs to make them aware of the problem.''
