Violence against women highlighted at Paisley rally

Hundreds turned out last night.

Published 30th Nov 2016

The Reclaim the Night march last night saw hundreds turn out, both men and women. Campaigners banged drums and held placards through the streets of Paisley, calling for the elimination of violence towards women.

The candle-lit march was co-ordinated by Renfrewshire Rising who want women to be free of violence and abuse in their home and their community.

It came hours before police announced they have arrested a 38 year old man in connection with the alleged rape of a 40 year old woman during the early hours of Sunday morning in the town.

The procession is part of the wider international 16 Days of Action campaign- which takes place from 25th November to 10th December each year and aims to raise awareness of the issue on a global level.
