VIDEO: Campaigners fears about new cycle lane

Protestors believe transport chiefs at East Dunbartonshire Council are not consulting about phase 2 of A81 Bears Way Cycle Scheme

Campaigners in Milngavie are accusing East Dunbartonshire Council of failing to consult on the next phase of the A81 cycle route.

Since the controversial Bears Way bike lane opened last year an online petition against it has attracted 2,000 signatures.

Protestors say it is dangerous, underused and a waste of money.

See our Chief Reporter Linda Sinclair's video report above.

In a statement East Dunbartonshire Council's Director of Place and Neighbourhood Thomas Glen says:

"The Bears Way is a protected space for anyone to use to cycle for their everyday journeys whilst maintaining the regulated carriage width for all other road vehicles."

"Extensive engagement has been carried out to date and will also be undertaken to inform design options for phase 2 which will be consulted on thi summer.
