Victoria Infirmary site sold
A not-for-profit developer has won the bidding for the south side hospital site
The site for the former Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow has been sold for housing.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde announced it selected the Sanctuary Group after being impressed with their vision on how they plan to move forward with the site.
The sale of the 9.5 acre site to the not-for-profit housing and care provider comes after it was put on the market in October last year following the transfer of the services on the site to the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The board says the site attracted considerable interest from house builders and development companies but following what it describes as a ‘robust and detailed evaluation process of a shortlist of bidders’ Sanctuary made the winning submission.
Sanctuary are proposing retaining a number of heritage features on the site while providing modern, stylish homes for first time buyers, families and older buyers and will now progress with pre-planning application discussions with Glasgow City Council and the local community.

David Loudon, Director of Facilities and Capital Planning, NHSGGC, said: “The former Victoria Infirmary site has been one of our most high profile disposals so far.
“Its successful sale means we have achieved the best value for money for the site, the site being brought back into economic use and the proceeds reinvested in the delivery of front line services.”
Sanctuary will now begin pre-planning application discussions with the local community and Glasgow City Council.
The consultation programme will be announced in the coming weeks.
